As of 3:45 this afternoon, I can say that the Calder Basketball Season has officially came to an end. Started with Shani back in November, then Kayd, and today was Kamrens last game. Wow - what a ride. But I wouldn't trade one minute of it. Tonight I am going to highlight Kaydens season... Last year as a freshman he worked really, really hard and this year that blood, sweat and tears paid off - he earned a starting position on the varsity team. For the first half of the season, he played a couple of quarters of JV ball each game, and then would rest up for the Varsity game. By mid-season, he was straight varsity. Both teams did extremely well, with the Varsity team being region co-champions with Duchesne. Hopes were high for the State Championship games, but we ended up with a fourth place finish. Kayd came a long ways in his maturity and game skills as the games went on, and with lots of hard work this summer, next season should be even sweeter. Here are a few of the highlights for him this season:
Rich 65, South Summit 55
Kayden Calder led the Rebels with 16 points as Rich recorded a double-digit win over the Wildcats.

Rich 79, Panguitch 70
Rich jumped out to a 27-10 lead early and held on late to post a win over Panguitch in what was a highly-anticipated matchup of No. 2 seeds in the nightcap of the opening round of the 1A tournament. Kayden Calder led Rich on offense with 23 points, while Caden Andersen and Bradley Holmes each added 12. Panguitch's Trac Norris paced all scorers with 24 points.
The Rebels, behind sophomore guard Kayden Calder, jumped out to a 27-10 lead midway through the second quarter and then made enough plays down the stretch to post a huge 79-70 win Wednesday night.
"We just jumped on them," Calder said of Rich's fast start. "That's what we try to do — jump out and don't look back."

I think the highlight of the season was his being named to the Deseret News All-State Honorable Mention Team as a sophomore. There were only 4 sophomores in the whole state who made all-state rankings. He scored a total of 251 points this season for an average of 9.65 per game.
I love you Kayd and can't wait to see your progress next season!
